About Altcar Estate

Historically Altcar Estate played host to the world famous Waterloo Cup from 1836 – 2005 which was the UK’s largest hare coursing event, attracting tens of thousands to watch and bet on the matches in its hay day. The founder of this cup, William Molyneux 2nd Earl of Sefton, went onto create the Grand Liverpool Steeplechase horse race three years after, now famously known across the World as the Grand National.

The estate is set amongst 3,000 acres of farmland, woodland and cover crops, with a topography that is perfect for fast partridge and pheasant. Early season partridge days are excellent to warm up a line of guns, and get well prepared and practised for mixed days later in the season.
